Welcome to
Brendan's Tripp's
home page.

To those coming here looking for the origin of some spam
that you may have received ... I'm sorry about that,
but it wasn't me sending it out!

My ISP tells me that there is a virus out there which takes
addresses from infected systems' mail boxes and uses
these for "spoofing" origin addresses on outgoing spam.
Apparently some computer somewhere has this virus
which got my address from that system's address book
and is using it for an "origin address" for spam.

This virus is NOT on my system.

The spam is NOT coming from my ISP.

However, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of spam
e-mails going out that appear as though they originated
"@btripp.com" ... which they definitely have not!

Needless to say, I (and my ISP) have been trying to
figure out what to do about this (as I get huge blocks
of "bounced" spam showing up in my mail box!),
but aside from digging into the IP codes in the headers
of each and every "bounced" message and contracting
the postmasters at the actual ISPs sending the spam,
there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about
this until the viruses pick some other address
to use in their "spoofed" headers.

Again, my apologies to anybody getting spam that
appears to have come from my domain.
